It is true that certain parameters can be set for the cost of developing say, a microsite or a rich media banner, but there are many factors that affect this.
The only way to know you are paying a fair price is to understand these factors and the context in which the development is undertaken.
How Much Does The Internet Cost?
Project Benchmarking. How much does this "type" of internet work generally cost in the relevant market?
Resource Benchmarking. Are the right type and mix of individuals working on the project for the right amount of time and at the appropriate rate?
Factors that affect these benchmarks are: Legacy pricing, exchange rates, type of agency selected, context of project, use of out-sourcing, advanced technical requirements and many more.
Value Benchmarking. Does the quality or originality of the idea coupled with a model for return on investment affect the ultimate value of the project and thus the cost?
Ultimately it is all about reaching a fair price for client and supplier and then structuring remuneration in order to engender the best behaviours from all parties and the best possible results for the project.
This is not about saving a percentage of the cost for the sake of it. Anybody can do that. It is only through applying our years of industry experience and up to the minute insight to all of the factors in play in order to arrive at a fair price - and that might be higher than the one we started with.
